Aiming High: 2016 Buick Envision Priced from $42995 to $45635

General Motors’ plant in Yantai, China is already hard at work churning out brand-new 2016 Buick Envision crossovers for the U.S. market. When these luxury SUVs arrive on our shores in June, buyers will have the choice of two well-equipped trim levels costing $42,995 and $45,635. If those prices are too high for you, you’ll have to wait for the 2017 Envision to arrive this fall, when three additional, lower-cost, trim levels will be added to the lineup.

-

At first, all U.S.-market Envisions will come standard with all-wheel drive and a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine making a healthy 252 horsepower. Buick wants you to think of these Envision models as competitors to the similarly priced Audi Q5 and BMW X3, and they’ll be equipped with plenty of standard luxury features.

The “Premium I” model, at $42,995, fits that bill and comes  loaded with leather upholstery, remote start, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and active safety features including blind-spot warning, forward collision alert, and lane-keep assist.

Upgrading to the range-topping “Premium II” trim, at $45,635, adds even more equipment including a head-up display, automatic park assist, ventilated front seats, HID headlights, and navigation. An available $1405 Driver Confidence Package adds adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera system, and automatic emergency braking. Both models also offer a sunroof as a $1360 stand-alone option.

Buick reasons that most early Envision shoppers will opt for the high-zoot models anyway, so it prioritized production accordingly. Once the factory ramps up for more U.S. production later this year, Buick will have the capacity to add more Envision models for 2017, including less costly front-wheel-drive versions powered by a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder that will arrive in October.
