Fewer Doors, More Dollars: 2016 Honda Civic Coupe Starts $410 Higher than the Sedan

Honda used to give Civic coupe buyers a slight discount for halving the door count, but no more. The new 2016 Honda Civic coupe starts at $19,885 for the base LX trim with a six-speed manual transmission, or $410 higher than the 2016 Civic sedan LX manual.

Of course, the two models aren’t exactly equivalent, and the Civic coupe LX’s standard alloy wheels essentially account for that difference—the sedan LX makes do with steel wheels and wheel covers. Both body styles come with the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, and opting for a CVT automatic adds $800 to the LX coupe’s bottom line, just as it does on the sedan. All other coupe trims offer only a CVT, including models EX-T and above that come with the 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

The price differences between two-door and four-door Civics vary as you move up the range, as the trim-level structure doesn’t exactly mirror that of the sedan. The coupe-exclusive LX-P trim, for instance, starts at $21,684 and adds passive entry, remote start, pushbutton ignition, and a sunroof. Next is the Civic coupe EX-T, which includes the turbocharged engine, heated seats, and other goodies for $23,135, or $100 more than the EX-T sedan. The $24,260 EX-L coupe, which includes leather seats, costs $275 less than the EX-L sedan.

Curiously, Honda isn’t offering the coupe with the Honda Sensing active-safety features as a $1000 standalone option as it does on the sedan. Systems like adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and lane-keep assist are only available on the top-trim Civic coupe Touring, which starts at $26,960 ($375 less than the sedan Touring).

You’ll be able to pick up your own Civic coupe starting next week, as the two-door arrives in Honda dealerships starting March 15th. That’s also when Honda will launch the online configurator tool for the coupe.
