GM Recalls Chevy Colorado and Malibu, GMC Canyon Over Potential Airbag Fault

2016 Chevrolet Colorado Diesel and Corvette

GM has issued a stop-sale order and a recall for some 2016 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickups, as well as new Chevy Malibu sedans, due to airbag modules that may not fully inflate under certain circumstances. 1750 vehicles are currently affected in the U.S.

The trouble lies with the front airbags’ second-stage inflator, which may not inflate the units quickly enough during a high-speed crash, a circumstance that could lead to potential injury. According to Automotive News, GM has declined to name the modules’ supplier, only going so far as to note that they’re not Takata products.

The company notes that some vehicles built for the Mexican market will be subject to the stop-sale/recall as well, but at this time, has yet to reveal how many south-of-the-border cars and/or trucks are involved.
