Car geeks over a certain age, and a good many under it, have a soft spot for the epic Cannonball Run races and the movies that depicted them. And so when a van like this Dodge Sportsman in Transcon Medi-vac ambulance livery that is a near-exact double for the van driven by Car and Driver veteran Brock Yates in the 1979 Cannonball Run, and later used in the movie of the same name, goes up for sale on eBay, we can’t let it go unappreciated.
- -While this van lacks the 440-cubic-inch V-8 of the Cannonball original, using a 360 V-8 instead—with, alas, only a single entry point for gasoline (the original van had four fuel access points for fast refueling)—the cosmetics are pretty flawless. That is, until you open the door and see the green sills and the Skoal sticker above the driver’s head. The green plaid interior is in great condition, though, even if it’s not quite ready to take on patients suffering from anything more serious than, uh, carsickness.

As we write this, the price is hovering just under $4000, which seems fair for any well-preserved 1970s Dodge van, especially one that bound to be a hit with the many fans of the 1981 flick. And as our buddy Jeff at Barnfinds.com says, it would give anyone seeking to build an exact replica—Gero Hoschek, are you listening?—a great start.
